Audra Mcdonald is a standout in the breadth of her talent and her versatility in her roles as a performer and singer. In 2015, she was awarded an unprecedented 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. The actress was also identified in Time magazine among the 100 most influential people, and she was also awarded with the National Medal of Arts - the top prize given in America in recognition of artistic excellence - from President Barack Obama. She's equally comfortable on television, film and Broadway. The luminous tone of her voice makes her a natural on the stage. Alongside her stage job, she is also pursuing been a busy singer and a concert artist. She performs regularly at the most prestigious venues in the world. McDonald was raised within Fresno California by her musical parents. She studied classical music in the Juilliard School, New York. After graduating, she received the first Tony Award as Best Performance by a Featured Actor in musical at the Lincoln Center Theater for Carousel (1994). The next four years she was awarded two more Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performances on the Broadway premier of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and his musical Ragtime (1998) making an unheard of number of Tony Awards before the age of 30. She took home her 4th Tony when she starred on stage in A Raisin in the Sun along with Sean Diddy Combs. Then in 2013, she brought her fifth Tony, and also her 1st in the Leading actress category. The year 1999 saw her co-starred with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. After receiving the first Emmy nomination in recognition of her performance on the HBO film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit produced by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned to network television in 2003 in the political drama Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and with Josh Brolin. She was a part of The Bedford Diaries on the WB series The Bedford Diaries in early the year 2006. The following season, she was in a role that was recurring on NBC's TV show Kidnapped. McDonald was awarded an 4th Emmy nomination in recognition of her part in the HBO film special Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the year 2016. The actress starred with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama co-produced with Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. McDonald was first seen in The Good Wife, a CBS Legal drama The Good Wife as U.S. attorneys Liz Lawrence and Liz Reddick between 2009 and 2018, reprised these roles (now named Liz Reddick) in The Good Fight as a Paramount+ season regular. McDonald received nominations in three Critics Choice Award awards. She is currently acting as a guest in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which premieres on HBO.
